Our Practice Manager and PDAer, Lauren Brown, is presenting at this year’s hybrid PDA North America Conference, February 27; March 5-6, 2026.
Their presentation, PDA & Me: Insights from a Life Fully PDA, will explore their life from every angle: undetected as a child, growing up alongside a PDA sibling, married to a late-diagnosed internalized PDAer, and parenting two PDA children. This candid, humorous, and heartfelt session will share insights that help PDAers, parents, and professionals navigate PDA in a neurotypical world, and truly understand what it means to build and thrive in a PDA life.

Delivering a New Diagnosis of Autism to Patients & Families: A Strengths-Based Approach for Empowerment

This presentation offers a neurodiversity-affirming approach to delivering autism diagnoses, blending lived experience—featuring voices of autistic children and presenters’ stories—with research-backed best practices. Drawing on expertise in mental health (Masters and Doctoral level) and psychiatry, we examine the harms of deficit-based assessment and the benefits of strengths-focused, collaborative techniques, including Therapeutic Assessment. Clinicians learn how to explain diagnoses affirmingly, respond to differing reactions, suggest accommodations, and identify high-quality, affirming resources. We also reflect on evolving perspectives on autism, encouraging a growth mindset to better support autistic individuals.
